Where's Tofu?

Tofu is at every single show, right down the front. Two enormous crowds — find him in both.

The backyard show

Grey-and-white, blue headphones. Everybody else is watching the stage — he's the one looking the wrong way. Take your time.

While you're in there, find

Answer all four and we'll tell you which Heartmark you'd be.

Things to think about, or draw

  • If you started a band tomorrow, what would you name it?
  • Which instrument do you actually want to learn — and who would teach you?
  • The Heartmarks play in a backyard. Where would your band play?
  • Draw the poster for your first show. What's on it?
  • Lucy makes friends with everybody she meets. Who was the last new friend you made?
  • The whole town played a concert to send Burrito home. What would you do for a friend who was far from home?
  • If your band had one song about your pet, what would it be called?

Project: popsicle-stick puppets

Cut out the band, color them in, tape them to sticks and put on your own concert.

This is what you're aiming for

What you need

  • A printed coloring page of each character you want
  • Crayons, markers or colored pencils
  • Safety scissors
  • Tape or a glue stick
  • One popsicle stick per puppet

Grown-up nearby for the cutting

    Pick your cast

    Choose the characters for your show. Two is plenty to start with — one who talks a lot and one who doesn't.

  2. 2

    Color them in

    Color each character before you cut. It's much easier to color a flat page than a floppy cutout.

  3. 3

    Cut around the outside

    Cut around the whole character, staying a little outside the black line so nothing important gets snipped off. Leave the tricky bits — ears, tails, whiskers — a bit chunky so they don't tear.

  4. 4

    Tape on the stick

    Lay the popsicle stick on the back so it sticks out the bottom like a handle. Tape it across twice, once near the top of the stick and once near the bottom.

  5. 5

    Give it a wiggle test

    Hold the stick and wave the puppet. If the head flops, add one more piece of tape up the middle of the back.

  6. 6

    Build the stage

    Turn a cardboard box on its side, or crouch behind the couch. Draw pots, a keyboard and a microphone on scrap paper and tape those to sticks too.

  7. 7

    Put on the show

    Play one of the band's songs and act out a concert. Tofu goes in front, paw up, cheering — the show doesn't officially start until he does.
